The lute connection

Obviously I'm not the only one who feels connected to the Elizabethan age (1575-2006). Sting (Songs from the Labyrinth) does too. Do I feel particularly connected to Sting, now? No. International stardom makes him even more remote than 16C lute players.
I do like the new album, though.

I recently discovered another interesting character from Shakespeare's era--John Taylor, the Water Poet. He seems to have taken great joy in disrupting and playing with print culture at the time. Today he would be a cross between Dave Eggers and Bill Bryson.
